You know… I’ve dealt with a lot of bipolar in my day. They are, or at least can be “etherial” in the sense that their capabilities and charisma can be out of this world (astonishing, really)…

The biggest problem I encounter with bipolar folks though, is that they’re total slaves to desire. By this I mean, when they put their minds to it, they can damn near do anything they want. The only problem is, when they don’t want to do something, it becomes virtually, and then literally impossible for them…

For bipolar people, desire dictates reality.

All of my relationships with bipolar individuals (love interests, family members and friends) have always cracked under the pressure of requirement. Everything’s good as long as there’s excitement and interest steering the ship, however, it all comes crashing down the very second effort, adaptation, conscientious participation, maintanance work and nurturing is required from them…

That’s when all the suffering, blame, deflection, name-calling and devaluing, and shady shit rears its ugly head. When you or reality requires bipolar people to do shit they don’t really wanna do, they perceive those requirements as a type of ‘death’.

This makes them incredibly unstable to be around, because it means you, the situation between you and all things considered therein, are only safe (and sustainable) as long as the bipolar person is happy and excited, and not interrupted by reality or requirements that extend beyond ways in which they know how to capture from or demonstrate value to the world, or the things they assign value to and are willing to do.

That’s the hardest part about ‘sizing people up’ to me… Who do I want to include in my circle of trust?

People who can separate desire from reality? Or people who feel as though desire both is and creates reality?

(BTW, just so you know, north of 95% of the species is bipolar. For many, it’s just a question of degree…)
